For me, this is personal.

I lost my cousin, Cathy, 15 years ago. She was shot and killed by her estranged boyfriend in Gaithersburg. Nothing can ever replace that loss. Her death inspired me to fight for change, in the courtroom, in Congress, and as an Army JAG officer.

We must do everything in our power to protect families from ever having to experience that same pain. That’s why I worked with advocates in Annapolis to pass Cathy’s Law, which enabled judges to take guns away from domestic abusers.

And our work was not done. Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve fought for universal background checks, red flag laws, and raising the age to purchase a gun to 21. Additionally, I helped the fight to pass the first gun reform package in three decades.

And as your Attorney General, I’ll keep fighting for common-sense gun reforms that save lives.
