Friend:
Help save the North Carolina Green Party from the wide-spread
attacks of well-funded corporate Democrat operatives. The NCGP spent
almost our entire budget on getting on the ballot for 2022. Now we are
in a fight for our survival against voter intimidation and harassment
and partisan ruling from the State Board. At this point we don't have
the funds to have booths at tables or quality flyers. Please donate
whatever you can toward our legal and other vital expenses.
DONATE
to our defense fund
The Democratic Party machine is exerting powerful pressure from its
highest levels to attempt to crush our candidates—in particular our US
Senate candidate, Matthew Hoh, but the Democrats also aim to stop the
NCGP from running future candidates. More on that below.
The NCGP successfully submitted more than 22,500 petition
signatures by the May 17 deadline this year, and the county boards of
election certified nearly 16,000 of them as valid. That's
2,000 signatures more the required amount of 13,865.
(which doesn't even include hundreds of signatures we strongly feel
should not have been invalidated.) Despite our huge volunteer-led
achievement, last Thursday the State Board of Elections outrageously
refused to grant NCGP ballot access in a 3-2 vote, with the
board's three Democrats voting against our certification. Not only did
those 3 Democrats overturn the will of our 22,500 petition signers,
but they also overturned the hard verification work of the county
boards of election.
The NCGP is driven by volunteers, so your contributions are needed
even more. Help us to affirm our democratic rights by standing up for
truly independent politics!
Unprecedented Voter Harassment
and Intimidation
To counter the NCGP's huge grassroots organizing feat of collecting
over 22,000 signatures, Democratic Party operatives shamelessly
obtained copies of our petition signatures by requesting them from the
State Board of Elections and then began one
of the most aggressive voter harassment campaigns in our state's
history: The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
has enlisted spammers to systematically call and text thousands of our
petition signers several times a day to pressure them to retract their
signatures from the NCGP petition.
Many of these spammers have outrageously claimed to be
representatives of the Green Party, and many have been rude and refuse
to say which organization they're with. Even more chilling,
the harassers have even been sent to our supporters' homes, including
to the homes of NCGP officers. In some of these intimidating
encounters, the Democratic operatives defame the NCGP, claiming our
petition drive was fraudulent and that we misled people who
signed.
Watch
CBS17's coverage of the harassment.
This harassment and intimidation have already caused irreparable
damage to the petitioning process for candidates and other initiatives
in our state—will voters continue to sign petitions, knowing that DSCC
operatives might misuse public records to hound them with calls and
texts and even show up on their doorsteps? The good news is, the NCGP
is fighting back and has received an outpouring of support from third
parties, independents, hundreds of Greens, and other folks who signed
our petition and have been subjected to the Democrats' harassment. If
you have been subjected to harassment or intimidation please submit
this intake
form.
Without organizing under the banner of a political party that
secures ballot access, progressives, socialists, and others in this
state cannot run for most offices due to antidemocratic petitioning
laws that make the signature requirements for independent campaigns
next to impossible. That is why you rarely see independent candidates
in North Carolina for partisan races, such as federal offices, all
statewide offices, state assembly, county commissioner, and even
council and mayoral seats in several cities. So in order to run strong
independent, pro-worker, antiwar candidates, we must run as
Greens.
Your
contribution to the NC Green Party's Ballot Access Defense
Fund will help us:
- Pay for legal fees and other expenses
toward getting the NCGP on the ballot and protecting our members and
supporters from further harassment
- Pay stipends to petitioners
- Hire phone bankers and text bankers
- Pay tabling fees at fairs, festivals,
and other events to get the word out
- Cover materials, printing, and
transportation costs
- Run strong NC Green Party candidates for
office and fight for political independence from the parties of Wall
Street and war!
No one else will fund this work except Greens like you. Please
contribute what you can today.
Warm regards and solidarity,
