Click here John, Last week's Supreme Court decision limiting the EPA's power to regulate carbon dioxide emissions is a blow to federal climate action. It is now more important than ever before for states to move decisively to address climate pollution across the economy. Right now in Washington State, the Department of Ecology is writing the rules based on the Climate Commitment Act, for the strongest carbon pricing program in the country, and you can act today to make a difference: The Climate Commitment Act was designed to achieve our climate goals while benefiting overburdened communities, honoring tribal sovereignty, and not causing environmental harm. The law caps emissions and creates a program geared towards shifting to a clean energy economy. This includes integrating environmental justice across every facet of the program. Public comment is now open on the proposed rule that will establish the foundation of the program, and it is critical that the intent of the law be reflected in its implementation. The Supreme Court can't stop our climate progress. Our state must lead and demonstrate that forward movement is unstoppable and is rooted in a commitment to environmental justice, tribal sovereignty, and public accountability. We cannot afford to leave anyone behind. The comment period closes on July 15.
