John, Shortly I will testify in Texas court on behalf of PFLAG families in Texas with trans kids. PFLAG v. Abbott is historic. With the support of Lambda Legal, ACLU, and ACLU of Texas, we are demanding the court block Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) investigations of PFLAG families who are supporting their transgender children with gender-affirming health care. While we’re grateful that the court temporarily ordered Texas to stop investigating our families -- and we hope that order will continue -- it’s just that: temporary. Right now, we need your help. Our lawyers are on the case, but more families in Texas are coming to PFLAG National every day for much-needed support. I was outraged when I learned that one of the attorneys representing the state claimed that “being under investigation by DFPS does not constitute harm to a family.” How would they feel if state investigators barged into their homes, asking invasive, personal questions about how they are raising their children? But that’s exactly what happened to our families, including the Briggles, the Voes, and the Roes – PFLAG families who have bravely shared their horrific experiences being investigated by state officials, simply for providing their kids the care they need to live and thrive. We will fight for every family in every state where rights are threatened, and we won’t stop until we’ve achieved a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
