JOHN, it pains me to write this, but here we are again.

Yesterday, children and families who were just enjoying a Fourth of July parade were gunned down by a young man with an assault weapon.

Congress needs to take substantial action to address the epidemic of gun violence our country is facing. The recently passed bipartisan gun reform bill was a good start but we still have more work to do. It’s time to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Will you add your name to my petition calling on Congress to ban assault weapons today?

Together, we can work to end gun violence in our country.

JOHN,

My heart aches for Uvalde. It aches for the children, for their families, for their community. It aches for our country, for allowing such tragedy to continue to repeat itself.

Today we mourn, we cry, we rest, we hug our loved ones tight. Tomorrow, we fight. We fight like our lives depend on it. Like our children’s lives depend on it — because they do.

Too many politicians are beholden to the gun lobby and have been for far too long. They pay lip service in the face of these tragedies but never follow through with action.

Enough is enough.

I will do everything in my power to stop our country’s gun violence epidemic — starting with restoring the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban, enforcing more rigorous background checks, implementing an assault weapons ban, and banning high-capacity magazines.

And in those moments when I may get tired or discouraged, I will remember the children of Uvalde, of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, of Santa Fe, of Sandy Hook, and every child caught in the crossfire in our communities every day.

And then I will remember that giving up isn’t an option. Failure isn’t an option.

So today, we mourn. But tomorrow, we fight.

May the children of Uvalde rest in peace while we rise in action.
