Ron DeSantis likes to talk a lot about “freedom.” He signed a “Freedom First Budget.” His hashtag is #KeepFloridaFree. His team even released a tortuous rock ballad about Florida’s freedom.

But the truth is, Freedom is under attack in Florida.

They ban books in Florida.

They restrict speech in Florida.

They make it harder to vote in Florida.

They criminalize women and doctors in Florida.

No, we are not going to let Republicans like Ron DeSantis own the word “freedom” in the political debate. This is the most anti-freedom party, and one of the most anti-freedom governors in the nation.

Unless, of course, you are talking about freedom to die from COVID where under Ron DeSantis’ leadership Florida has 1.5x the COVID deaths per capita compared to California.

Unless you are talking about the freedom to get shot, where under Ron DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has 1.6x the firearm deaths per capita compared to California.

Unless you are talking about the freedom to live without health care, where almost 1 in 5 non-elderly Floridians live without health care compared to California which is the first state to provide access to health access for everyone, no matter their immigration status.
