Hello,

I’ve spent my time in the House working with my colleagues to pass legislation that makes a tangible difference in the lives of Vermonters. It’s what we were elected to do, and I’m proud of the work we’ve been able to accomplish.

But even as we work hard to make positive change, progress has been stalled by Republicans. Their obstructionist agenda stops anything from getting done—unless we act.

There is no greater threat to progressive change in America than the filibuster. We can—and we must—abolish it.

The Republican minority blocks critical bills popular with vast majorities of Americans time and time again using the filibuster. To be a true democracy where we listen to the voice of the people, rather than just the powerful few, we must end the filibuster.

Even with Democrats holding the majority, the filibuster allows for minority rule. Senate Republicans have employed the filibuster to block raising the minimum wage, protecting the right to vote, and enshrining the right to abortion in national law.

The filibuster has to go. It’s a relic from the Jim Crow era, used by segregationists to block civil rights. It continues to undermine our democracy and it’s time to abolish it.

The bills Republicans have filibustered have broad support in Vermont and across the country—which is why we’ve fought to pass them in the House. But with Mitch McConnell leading the Senate Republicans, they fight for failure, as we suffer as a result.

In the Senate, I will vote to end the filibuster so we can protect Americans’ basic rights and deliver results. But I can’t win this fight by myself—we all need to raise our voices.
