Underserved communities, like Uvalde, are desperately in need of mental health resources-- now and well into the future. Unfortunately, mental health clinicians and facilities in these communities are few and far between, and patients often must drive multiple hours roundtrip for access to inpatient care.
That’s why I am proud to introduce the Undertaking Needed Investments in Therapy, Education, and De-Escalation (UNITED) Act to address the mental health crisis in America. In particular, this legislation seeks to deliver funding to nine key areas including youth suicide prevention efforts, crisis care response and coordination, a lifeline crisis call center program, the extension of emergency telehealth services, and increased access to pediatric mental health care access grants.
