Dear JOHN,

Every so often in our democracy, we have an opportunity to vote for a true public servant. Someone who places the mission of public service before their own interests or financial gain.

In this primary election, I’m proud to say, we have such an opportunity. I’m even more proud to tell you that the candidate is my dear friend of 14 years, Ben Smilowitz. In addition to asking for your vote, I'm writing to ask that you join me in making a donation to Ben's campaign.

Ben and I started working together when I was working at Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc. (TDI). Ben was specifically focused on the failure of many organizations in emergency management and preparedness to ensure Deaf/hard of hearing/DeafBlind people, as well as people with other disabilities, were not left behind when a disaster strikes.

His goal, as it has been throughout his professional life, is to demand and ensure accountability, and to insist that everyone gets a seat at the table.

Throughout my career, from my time as a firefighter to currently serving as the first Deaf person elected as mayor of a municipality in the United States, I can tell you that Ben Smilowitz is a rare public servant – selfless and devoted to people. I encourage you to learn more about his campaign, and to cast your vote for Ben in Maryland’s primary election.

I’d also like to ask you to join me in supporting Ben’s grassroots campaign. He’s running against an entrenched incumbent, David Trone, with a massive campaign warchest and a record of looking out for himself (and some right wing Republicans!) Can you chip in $10, $25, $50, or $100 to my friend Ben’s campaign right now? Thank you for your support. Now go vote!

Sincerely,

Neil McDevitt
Mayor, North Wales Borough (PA)

PS: I lost my first race for mayor by only FIVE votes. Let’s not let that happen to Ben.Today: Will you tell 10 friends to vote for Ben? Forward this email and spread the word. On the night of July 19, let’s not wish we had done just a little more to help Ben win this primary.
