Correction: This 4th Of July

Friends And Future Constituents: This 4th of July is unlike one (1) we have seen in many generations. Many events have transpired in recent days and weeks: a. We are living under an extreme states' rights Supreme Court. (There will be a forthcoming extensive newsletter on this topic). b. The Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant gun reform legislation in nearly thirty (30) years. c. Correction: There was a misuse of language describing the fatal police shooting of Mr. Jayland Walker. To the family and community of Akron, Ohio, our heart and mind got out to all impacted by this incident. Mr. Jayland Walker, a twenty-five (25) year old African American man, was shot sixty (60) times by police in Akron, Ohio. Another senseless death of this magnitude makes the heart of black America and all that love humanity ache and bleed. This loss of life feels like George Floyd, Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice, and Breonna Taylor all over again. d. WNBA Superstar and Olympic Gold Medalist Brittney Griner has been detained in Russia and is being used as a political pawn on the global stage. BG has served her time and we would like to see her returned to the United States of America. e. Corporate greed has spiraled inflation out of control. f. A mass shooting in Highland Park suburban Chicago has gripped the nation this Freedom Day. Our prayers are with the community. g. The January 6th Hearings are showing us how dangerous the 45th President of the United States truly was in his final days in office. h. Ketanji Brown Jackson was sworn in as the first African American woman to sit on the United States Supreme Court. Current and future generations see there is representation of women in most positions of human endeavor, and we can stretch the bounds of our imagination. Congratulations, KBJ! This 4th of July let us wish our nation a happy two hundred forty-sixth (246th) birthday and move our feet to the polls this November as we strive through our suffering and sacrifice. The path forward to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people does not allow us to bend toward the wind of political expediency. The path forward calls on each of us to not waiver to the powers of opposition. The path forward is for Central Arkansas to know its daylight and we go Onward, Forward, Upward, and Outward together! Dr. Quintessa Hathaway
