Did you see the email Margaret Atwood sent on Tuesday? As she put it, Gilead is fictional, but we live in a world with totalitarians and authoritarians who make freedom of expression unattainable.
Will you join Margaret Atwood by making a gift today to protect writers and their ability to write without fear?
Thank you for your continued support,

Subject: Protect freedom. Give Generously.
In my book The Testaments, Offred and all women in the Republic of Gilead are suppressed by dictators. They cannot express their values or ideas and almost all of the women are forbidden from reading and learning.
Gilead is a fictional dystopia, but we live in a world where totalitarians and authoritarians try to distort newsworthy information, ban books and works of expression, and restrict freedom of speech.
Protecting writers and their ability to write from these threats is more important than ever and that is why I support PEN America.
PEN America relentlessly fights to protect writers like me from the ever-growing threats against creative expression and the very liberties that make that expression possible.
PEN America has advocated on behalf of writers and the written word for nearly a century. Please help them continue this crucial work.
Sincerely,
Margaret Atwood
