Dear John

Tell them not to turn their backs on international law.

By pledging to rip up the Protocol through the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill, the Government has shown it no longer cares about our international obligations.

They are willing to damage Britain’s credibility on the international stage. I for one do not want the UK to become a rogue state. I want the UK to be trusted by other nations, to work closely with others on issues that affect us all, such as climate change, international security and defence.

If we can’t be trusted, why would any other country work with us or give us a trade deal? I want trade and travel and cooperation to be made easier, not get caught up in unnecessary division. Do you agree?

At the Bill’s Second Reading in Parliament last week, it became clear even Conservative MPs had deep misgivings about the Government’s proposals, and many feared the potential fallout of a breach of international law. MPs also observed the sweeping powers the new Bill grants to Government ministers and commented on how the Bill as a whole undermines our democratic processes.

In the midst of a cost of living emergency, we can’t afford a trade war with the EU.

We need MPs of all parties to know just how important this issue is. Not only is this yet another threat to our democracy from this government, but it will also cause economic misery, potentially leading to costly tariffs on our exports which we can ill-afford in this financial climate.

This Bill affects us all - now and into the future.

Send an email to your MP today and take a step towards making a big difference.

Best wishes,

Naomi Smith
