It was the day in 1776 that the Constitutional Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. Its signers were brave and determined men who defied a monarch and an oppressive parliament and risked their lives and property to openly declare liberty..
We are a nation that loves liberty, the land of the free because of the brave. As President Reagan once said, “freedom is always only one generation away from extinction.”
To cherish and preserve freedom calls us to bravery, to speak out against the siren call of race-conscious divisions or the dependency on yet another government program or recent government controls that threaten individual responsibility, liberty and choice.
We cannot accept unelected, always-employed ‘experts’ implementing
massive social changes that no elected representatives approved.
We must be willing to act. We must be willing to give money, volunteer, and speak out for candidates who will defend freedom and support the founders’ genius plan - our Constitution.
This rare thing in history, an enduring constitutional republic, uses democratic elections to choose representatives, but it is not a democracy. It is not absolute rule by the majority. It is liberty under law which hears minority concerns, and protects vulnerable individuals and communities against the unconstrained force of the state.
It is government restrained, not unleashed.
It is government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
As your Hawaii Republican Party Chair, I join you, with joy and trepidation, as we celebrate our state and this nation, united, enduring, and courageously facing the challenge to protect liberty!
Sincerely,
Lynn Finnegan, Chair
Hawaii Republican Party
