Happy Fourth of July, John!

I love this holiday. Yes, I have a soft spot for the barbecues, parades, and fireworks that always make this day so memorable – but every year, I also make time to think about the meaning of service and the folks whose service has secured the country we have today.

I was first called to service as a naval flight officer. I served three tours and then continued to serve in the Navy Reserves for another 18 years. Eventually, I retired with the rank of captain.

My time in the military ended, but that mission of public service continues to guide me in everything that I do. I've served my family as a husband and father. I've served my state as governor. And now I'm serving our nation as a U.S. senator.

For me, public service means hard work and an unrelenting effort to deliver for the people who have trusted me enough to serve them and their families. It means fighting for affordable healthcare. It means defending America's natural beauty from corporate greed. It means tackling climate change head on. It means passing commonsense gun reform. It means leading our state and our country forward, even in the face of terrible hatred and division.

I am so grateful that the people of Delaware have chosen me to lead and trust me to take on these big fights. I promise that I will continue to work as hard as I can to deliver real, meaningful results for American families.

Happy Fourth of July,

Tom
