Independence Day is a time to spend with friends and family and reflect on what it means to be an American.
But today, women across the country are wondering what democracy means when millions of women no longer have reproductive freedom or personal autonomy.
The truth is this is what happens when extremists are in charge. Extremists want to push us apart to ultimately turn back the clock on the work that’s been done across decades to make our country a more perfect union.
On this Independence Day, there’s no doubt what we’re up against. We cannot allow extremists to continue driving wedges between us. Extremists only win if the rest of us give up, and there’s more of us than there are of them.
I’m proud to be an American. I’m proud to keep working to make our country a more perfect union – a place where all Americans have personal freedom and equal rights under the law.
There’s nothing more American than doing the work to stand up to tyranny, and we must keep fighting. Doing the work binds us together and we’ll keep doing it together because it matters.
None of my efforts are possible without people like you – and I’m so proud to keep standing with you today.
