I want to wish you a happy Fourth of July!

We are all blessed to live in the United States of America – and today, we get to celebrate our country's birth and give thanks for the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans.

The powerful words of the Declaration of Independence laid a foundation on which our country was born:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.''

Nearly two and a half centuries later, we continue to strive to realize the bold ideals of our founding fathers while also recognizing how far we still have to go to ensure all Americans live with dignity and equal rights.

While there is work yet to be done, I am proud to be an American and I am proud to be a Kentuckian. Today is a day we get to show that pride. I hope that this year all Kentuckians have the opportunity to be together with their loved ones, celebrate our nation's founding, grill, and enjoy the beautiful summer day.
