Happy Fourth of July, John!
Today is all about celebrating our independence, as well as recognizing the work we've done and the work we have left to do to create a more perfect union. As we all go to enjoy the Fourth of July weekend and take some time off to be with our loved ones, I hope you will join me in reflecting on what it means to be an American.
This nation was built by a group of determined patriots who saw what our country could be. That vision continues to be upheld by the immense sacrifice, service, and hard work of our citizens.
While today is a day to celebrate our independence and gather with friends and family to fly our flag, we must also reflect on the meaning of equality and what we can do for our country and our fellow Americans.
The loss of Roe v. Wade signaled the end of the constitutional right to seek abortion as well as the loss of bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom for millions of people. Over the last 246 years, the path of progress in our country has rarely been linear, but has often pushed forward. We must do better now to ensure that the clock of progress does not run backward.
As your senator, I promise to continue working with my colleagues to create a better union that serves and protects ALL Americans. I hope that you have a safe and happy Fourth of July.
Thank you,
Chris
