Dear JOHN,
On this day we celebrate our freedoms, our community, and our nation’s resilience. This year, Independence Day takes on special meaning with early voting already underway for our statewide primary.
Our team has been marching in parades in Brandon, Montpelier, and Williston. I’ve had a blast shaking hands and meeting so many of the Vermonters I serve as Lieutenant Governor.

But Independence Day is not just about parades, pinwheels and barbeques – it’s about recognizing the ideas and values that built our democracy.
In the wake of the recent Supreme Court rulings, I understand that patriotism may be running low for many Vermonters. However, I firmly believe that this moment calls for a recommitment to – not a departure from – our nation’s founding principles. The fight for equality, civil liberties, and justice must go on.
I know Vermont can lead the way, encouraging this country to strive towards its highest ideals, as we have in so many difficult, consequential moments throughout history.
Today, I hope that you find time to celebrate with friends, family and neighbors and the beauty of our Green Mountain State. Tomorrow, I look forward to joining you in the hard work ahead.
I wish all Vermonters a safe, relaxing, and happy Fourth of July.
Happy 4th!
Molly
