John,
The Fourth of July is a moment to celebrate with family and friends, but it must also be a time to commit to the work ahead to protect democracy and achieve liberty, equality, and justice for all.
Today, our country is being tested unlike any other time in recent history. In Texas, Greg Abbott has consistently weakened our rights — leaving our state less safe, our democracy more fragile, and too many of our neighbors under attack.
He's signed dangerous legislation that makes it easier to carry loaded guns in public without a background check, permit, or training. He's passed one of the most restrictive voter suppression bills in the country that's already making it harder for Texans — disproportionately Black and Hispanic Texans — to have their voice heard and vote counted. He’s called for defunding public school classrooms. And he signed the most extreme abortion ban in America, attacking the rights, freedoms, and health of women across this state.
It is clear that we still have a lot of work to do in the fight for equality, and to fulfill the unmet promise made 246 years ago. As we spend time with our loved ones today, let us also recommit to the work ahead to save and strengthen our democracy.
Together, we can create a safer, healthier, and more just Texas for ourselves and future generations. John, if you're with us in this urgent work, please consider a contribution of any amount today to power Beto’s campaign to be a governor who will deliver for all of Texas while ensuring our voices are heard in this democracy.
Thank you, and have a safe holiday,
Beto for Texas
