This country was founded as a revolution against monarchy, but it only promised self governance to white male property owners.
Throughout our history, the people left out of that founding promise have fought and in many cases died to expand it and truly make this a country that promises justice and liberty for all.
Now, as has always been the case, we face powerful forces that want to resist progress and turn back the clock. So we have to rededicate ourselves to the fight for liberty for all.
So this Independence Day, let’s recommit ourselves to the fight for a fairer, more just country.
