Happy Independence Day!
As I sat down to write my 4th of July message, I found it difficult. This is a holiday about Americans coming together to celebrate our independence as a country from England. It is about celebrating the red, white, and blue. We don't do that anymore – instead, the red celebrate the red, and the blue celebrate the blue.
It takes ALL of us to make American Great. We don't need to compromise our principles to move forward... I'm confident there is a lot we can all agree on as we continue to make forward progress.
Yesterday, I listened to a WW2 veteran, on his 100th birthday, lament that this country, as you see it now, was not the country that he fought for, and his buddies died for. I understand his feelings. He is still proud to be an American but does not like what this nation has turned into.
This July 4th, as we celebrate the birth of our nation, I ask you to remember that, while it has never been perfect, we are almost always a beacon of light. We need to restore what made our country great and continue to improve our short comings.
When the going gets tough, we come together. We need to focus on making this the land of opportunity again. Right now, big businesses (with government protection) stifle much of that opportunity. There is little to nothing for people with low incomes to strive for, nothing to support their success. If we want to shrink entitlement programs, we need to give people the means to strike out on their own – to rise up to their potential!
We need to recognize when our fellow Americans are in pain, and do what we can to help them without relying on government. Offer a hand up over showing the palm.
Together we are strong. It's up to each of us to save our country. The first step is to stop dividing it.
I hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July. Take a moment to remember what it means. I love this country and I refuse to lose it due to two deeply divided parties. We are Americans first and foremost and it's time we all act like it.
Yours in Liberty,
Bull
