We must fight for immigrants to have a clear pathway to citizenship.

John,
The anniversary of our nation’s independence is a somber one. It reminds us that the core tenets of this country — life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — were always systematically designed by and for the privileged few. For 246 years, the United States has built out violent, unforgiving infrastructures on stolen land with a set goal to disempower Black, brown, and indigenous communities with little reprieve. We see every day how racist, imperialist, homophobic, sexist, and ableist ideologies are deeply embedded in the fabric of this country, and yet, despite it all, we persevere in our fight to protect immigrants across New York. Because we MUST persist.

We know that, for as long as there is any injustice in this country, we will be advocating tirelessly to defend our inalienable rights as human beings. Our fight to secure rights for immigrants across the nation is a decades-long struggle, but through the years we’ve had important victories securing the protection of millions of immigrants everywhere.

Many immigrants come to America dreaming of a better future, only to be threatened with the looming fear of being separated from their loved ones. These dreams connect us to the hopes of every New York family. It’s also why we remain determined to ensure that one’s immigration status doesn’t determine the worth of an individual, and that it does not define the safety, stability and security they should be entitled to. We will not rest until every immigrant has a direct pathway to citizenship and has access to the same liberties as the rest of the country.

So after you enjoy your barbeque or picnic with friends and family, we hope you will join us in our fight for more equity and opportunity for every New Yorker.

Onwards,
Murad Awawdeh
Executive Director
