Today we celebrate the 246th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Twelve years and a war with England later, the Constitution was ratified and then in 1792 the Bill of Rights was added to it. Now the First Amendment is under attack by a Supreme Court constructed to reverse decades of privacy rights and while they are at it, reverse precedents on religious freedom that protect a secular government.

Those who know America was not founded as a Christian nation and believe in the separation of religion and government have to get in the game now.

Supporters of secular government must more than anything else vote, in primaries and in the fall elections. The rise of Christian nationalism has motivated its adherents to become more active at all levels of government. We must too!

The Secular Coalition for America lobbies on Capitol Hill for the separation of religion and government in federal spending, in government agency policies, and in laws that correct the misinterpretation of existing religious freedom laws by the courts. Like it says on our business cards, we protect the equal rights of nonreligious Americans.

It’s time to stand up and take action to defend the separation of religion and government.
If the Supreme Court will not protect us, we need to work with our allies in Congress to create laws and national policies that will. That is what we do.
