With attacks to our rights and our democracy coming at a rapid pace, there is no question that this July 4th feels different on an elemental level.

But, I think it’s important to take today to remember what we are fighting for. Democracy is made up of citizens. Citizens like you who step up to fight injustice by voting, protesting, volunteering or donating. Citizens who work together to build a better future for the neighbors and communities.

I am so proud to be a part of fighting for our democracy each and every day and I will never ever give up.

While today may feel like less of a celebration than some years, what better day than Independence Day to recommit to working together to fight for a country that lives up to our ideals.

Wishing you and your family a safe and healthy 4th of July.
