 We fund voter protection John, This July 4 we’re taking stock of the progress we’ve made – and also acknowledging just how far we have to go to live up to our founding ideals. From day one, America did not live up to its promise of democracy. Voting rights heroes fought to change that – and with sustained effort and sacrifice, the franchise has been gradually expanded to guarantee the right to vote to previously-excluded groups. Change never happened overnight, and it never came easy. And the fight for voting rights and democracy continues today. At every turn, Republicans are seeking to silence voters who disagree with them, block lawful ballots from being counted, and undermine the free and fair elections on which everything we have is built. So as we reflect on the progress we’ve made, we must also stay committed to defending our democracy for future generations to come.
