John, we want to be blunt with you.
We cannot in good conscience celebrate our country’s “freedom” tomorrow when we are not free.
Our bodily rights are under attack by our far-right, anti-abortion Supreme Court. Systemic racism in our communities continues to take away the lives of Black Americans. And now, LGBTQIA+ Americans are at risk of losing their right to marriage and other critical protections because of the precedent set in Dobbs.
This is not what freedom looks like.
It’s shameful to see the impact a handful of extremist politicians have wrought on our country — but we know they don’t represent us, John. Their division and hatred doesn’t represent the love and compassion that gives St. Louis and communities like it their strength.
This 4th of July, we are called to work harder than ever for the future we want for our country. We know how hard this moment is, how tired so many of us feel. But we must remember the shoulders we stand on — generations of Black and brown leaders who fought before us to deliver a brighter future for our country.
Together, we have the power to honor their work and continue the fight for justice. We will not rest until everyone is guaranteed the right to make decisions for their own body and to live freely no matter your sexuality or skin color.
If you’re ready to rise up with Cori in this work, will you chip in $5 or anything you can today to show your support for our anti-racist, people-powered movement? It’s more important than ever that we work together for the future we want in this country.
In solidarity,
Team Cori
