Friend, I just wanted to take a moment and share with you what I’ve been reflecting on in the past few days.
I was looking through some old photos, and I feel so incredibly lucky to be where I am today.

In this picture, I was a young boy growing up in South Carolina. I had no idea what life had in store for me.
When I was young, my grandparents took my mom, my brother, and me into their home when my parents split up. My mom worked long and hard hours each and every day to put food on the table.
My wonderful mom and grandparents stressed the importance of an education - even though my grandfather never learned how to read. They knew an education was the closest thing to magic and a ticket to the American Dream.

Here’s me playing football in high school. I had dreams of playing for the Dallas Cowboys when I was older. I’d be able to buy my mom a house, so we wouldn’t have to bounce from apartment to apartment like we did when I was young.
It was simple: football was my ticket out, and a chance to give back to my mom for all the love and support she showed me.
But then, because life often does not go the way we expect, my dream was shattered.
I fell asleep behind the wheel of her old AMC Gremlin and flipped it. I nearly died in the wreck and lost myself forever.
I had a dream that one day football would be my family’s ticket to the American Dream, but it nearly killed me instead.
But as you might have guessed - my story didn’t end there. The injuries I sustained in the car wreck kept me from playing big time college football, and I walked away from the game after realizing there was a better way.
In college I became a Christian, I dedicated myself to a life of meaningful service, and long story short…now I’m living my mother’s American Dream.
With the help of some important mentors in my life and the grace of God, I discovered that I could use business and financial literacy to help many people improve their lives.
After a career in sales and insurance, I ran for political office in the Charleston area -- as a Republican.
Along the way, I became the first African-American elected to the U.S. Senate from a Southern state in modern history.

Here’s what I learned along the way: Every American can achieve their own American Dream when given an equal opportunity, and when the government gets out of their way to let them do it.
That’s been my mission in the Senate from Day 1, and it will forever be my mission. I’m not here to shake hands and make friends with powerful people. I’m here to serve the American people and make sure they have the same opportunity for success I had.
But it’s hard to do alone. You’re reading this email because I know that you are a fighter and protector of the American Dream like me - so I’m asking for your help.
As election day draws closer and closer, I’m humbly asking you for your endorsement of me today. In order to continue to fight for the American dream, I need a grassroots team behind me. Your endorsement would mean the world to me:

Friend, although $5 doesn’t sound like much, it goes further than you may think. Your gift would mean so much to me in our push to take back the Senate Majority.
I know we have been asking a lot lately, but

$5 would go a long way to make sure we keep our momentum heading into November.

CHIP IN $5
I understand the value of a dollar, that is why I am humbly asking for your support:
