With the Supreme Court overturning our federal rights, Michigan’s 90-year-old law banning abortion could come back into effect at any moment. That’s why I’m supporting Reproductive Freedom for All, a campaign to amend the Michigan Constitution to protect our right to abortion care and other reproductive care.

Note: Abortion is still legal in Michigan, because a state court has temporarily blocked the old law. But we need to protect our bodily autonomy permanently.

To qualify for the November 2022 ballot, Reproductive Freedom for All must collect over 425,000 signatures from registered Michigan voters—with a little over a week left.

Can you donate to the Reproductive Freedom for All ballot initiative in this crucial last week to keep abortion legal in Michigan?

Specifically, the measure will ensure that all Michiganders have the right to safe and respectful care during birthing, everyone has the right to use temporary or permanent birth control, everyone has the right to continue or end a pregnancy pre-viability, and no one can be punished for having a miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion.

This amendment would also make sure that no one goes to prison for providing safe medical care, which is important given that our state’s old ban on abortion would punish providers with up to 15 years in prison.

Abortion advocates in our state have tried to repeal the old law through the legislature, but the legislature is controlled by Republicans—who are delighted by the overturning of our federal right to abortions. Just as we can’t rely on federal courts, we also can’t rely on state courts to protect our fundamental rights to make decisions about our bodies.

We need the power of the people to amend the state constitution.

We’ve got to keep Michigan a safe state for abortion access—not only for Michiganders but also for anyone in the Midwest who needs to travel to Michigan to get abortion care.

Our state has an old law on the books from before Roe v. Wade, which would make providing an abortion a felony and punish providers with up to 15 years in prison. A state court has temporarily blocked enforcement, keeping abortion legal for now.

But we need to keep fighting to ensure that abortion remains accessible and safe for generations to come.

That’s why we’ve got to make sure a new ballot initiative gets on the ballot: Reproductive Freedom for All, which would amend Michigan’s state constitution to affirm that everyone in the state has the fundamental right to reproductive freedom.
