Hi team, this past week has been rough.
The US Supreme Court took away women's reproductive freedom overnight, weakened the EPA’s ability to fight the climate crisis, and opened the door in elections for partisan state legislators to simply override the will of the people.
All of this is on top of the January 6th Committee’s devastating unveiling of the attempted coup.
Yet, in the face of all these troubles, I have an unusual ask of you: enjoy the Fourth of July holiday weekend with family and friends.
I love the Fourth of July because I love America. No, we are not perfect. But Americans will never stop working to push our nation to live up to our ideals — equality, self-government, liberty, opportunity. These ideals, and the people who fight for them, inspire me and fill me with pride.
So no matter how upset you are at the Supreme Court and our political system or how exhausted you feel, please do not despair.
Every generation of Americans has had to work and push and claw to make our democracy more meaningful to more people. It’s never been easy.
We are no different, even if we wish we were. This responsibility is ours to bear, as well. And we can do it.
So I ask that you relax, recharge, reflect and reenergize so that starting on July 5th, we can get back to the difficult but necessary work of building a better NC and pursuing a more perfect Union.
Best,
Josh
P.S. Thank you! When my team and I reached out to tell you just how important our 6/30 public fundraising deadline was, we knew folks like you would step up and chip in if you could. And that’s exactly what we saw. I am very grateful!
