50 years ago, President Nixon signed Title IX into law under the Education Amendments of 1972. To this day, Title IX remains crucial in protecting women’s right to fair competition in athletics and the classroom.
Today, however, the right to equal opportunity for young women is under attack by the Biden Administration. On May 5, 2022, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it will interpret federal anti-discrimination law in education under Title IX to include “sexual orientation and gender identity”. In practice, this "interpretation" means that schools would be required to allow transgender boys and girls to use bathrooms or play on sports teams with members of the opposite sex.
This new interpretation of Title IX opens the door for the President to strip federal funds for meal assistance programs from schools that do not comply with its radical transgender ideology, meaning children would be left without the school lunches they have been promised.
In other words, if a school, parent, student, or teacher believes that there are biological differences between males and females, the meals children in these schools rely upon could be taken away at the behest of President Biden.
To stand up for the school districts that do not wish to implement President Biden's new "interpretation" of Title IX, I teamed up with Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (TN-01) to introduce the Stop “Wrongs to Our Kids’ Educational” (WOKE) Meals Act. If passed, the Stop WOKE Meals Act will block the USDA from moving forward with its radical expansion of Title IX anti-discrimination law, and thus, ensure our kids do not go without meals.
