Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Happy Independence Day Weekend! As we celebrate the Fourth of July this Monday, I want to wish everyone across New York’s 22nd District a very happy and safe Independence Day! Independence Day is a celebration of our nation’s founding. We were and continue to be that city upon a hill, a beacon of freedom, liberty, and individual rights the world over. We also honor the incredible sacrifices made by those before us who have fought for and secured our independence, and those throughout the centuries who have valiantly defended our founding ideals. As we all come together with our friends and families to celebrate as a community and nation, I hope you will take a moment to remember the principles upon which our country was founded, recognize all that we have accomplished since July 4, 1776, and reflect on all that we can achieve together over the next 246 years. May God continue to Bless America! A Plan to Protect and Support Senior Citizens The past few years have been full of significant hurdles for us all--from the impacts of COVID-19 and related lockdowns, to the soaring cost-of-living due to President Biden's out-of-control spending, and so much more--and our seniors have been one of the most highly-impacted groups. As prices skyrocket under the Biden Administration, many seniors have struggled to keep up with rising prices. After receiving the biggest cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in about 40 years, inflation has now reached 8.6%, wiping away any gains seniors might have made. Many seniors depend on this reliable source of income to cover their daily expenses, as well as Medicare funding to afford basic medical care. It is essential to strengthen these programs that so many Americans are counting on. In response, I've released my plan to protect and support senior citizens. This plan includes key legislation I support in Congress focused on: (1) Enhancing Protections and Support for Seniors; (2) Expanding and Improving Affordable Access to Health Care; and (3) Protecting Social Security and Medicare. My plan also increases accountability to prevent grossly negligent or disastrous policies like those disgraced former Governor Cuomo imposed on nursing homes during the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The legislation included in the plan details how enhanced oversight and safety protocols, along with a commitment to financial assistance, is vital to protect the most vulnerable. I encourage you to read my full plan here and let me know what you think. No to Solar Panels Made in China with Forced Labor! I recently joined my colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden urging the administration to reverse its decision to waive tariffs on solar panels potentially manufactured with Chinese-produced components, many of which are made with slave labor. In early June, the Biden Administration announced it would waive tariffs on solar panels produced in the Southeast Asian countries of Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The decision to waive these tariffs comes in the middle of a months-long U.S. Department of Commerce investigation into whether the Chinese government is actively circumventing antidumping and countervailing duties as part of their production and distribution of solar cells and modules. This means that the United States could import solar panels containing components produced with forced labor from Uyghurs and other minority groups in China. Once again, President Biden is projecting weakness on the international stage. Unfortunately, refusing to stand up to China and its malign activities will hurt our domestic manufacturers the most. I am urging the Administration, in the strongest of terms, to reconsider and reverse this decision immediately. You can read the full letter here. Demanding Accountability for the Biden Family READ MORE: 'Huge integrity test': Calls for action as Biden voicemail reveals he knew of Hunter China deals New and disturbing information continues to come to light regarding Hunter Biden's shady activity. Every piece of information that has come to light so far suggests President Biden knew exactly what Hunter was up to abroad, and new reporting this week seems to confirm that Joe knew about Hunter's business dealings in China. However, so many questions still remain. I continue to call for a Special Counsel to investigate President Biden, Hunter, and their overseas business dealings with China and other bad actors, which call into question his ability to serve transparently and with integrity. Congress should also due its duty to investigate these concerning issues, and I look forward to exposing the truth and pressing for accountability. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS! Should AG Garland appoint a Special Counsel to investigate the Bidens' shady business deals? Yes Select No Select ELECTION INTEGRITY UPDATE: NYS Supreme Court Strikes Down NYC Law Allowing Non-Citizens to Vote Last year, Democrats in New York City passed a law that would have allowed for noncitizens to vote in local elections. At the time, even far-left Mayor Bill de Blasio acknowledged that the law was unconstitutional. As co-chair of the Election Integrity Caucus in Congress, I came out strongly against this disastrous law, and many others across the political spectrum joined me. This week, the New York State Supreme Court struck down this law. This is a huge win for election integrity! Voting is a sacred right for American citizens, and we should never allow it to be diminished or eroded. Congratulations to the Utica Fire Academy Graduates! Congratulations to this year's graduates of the Utica Fire Academy, who were also part of a very special 40th graduation class from the Academy! 22 new firefighters graduated from the academy following a 14-week training program. Of the 22 graduates, three of them will remain local, working in fire departments right here in our region. Thank you to all of our first responders! Just Announced: Mobile Office Hours This week, I announced one virtual office hour and three mobile office hour sessions for July. These sessions are an opportunity for constituents to connect with caseworkers for assistance dealing with a federal agency. Constituents interested in attending virtual office hours should RSVP directly to Tenney’s Binghamton District Office at 607-242-0200 with their preferred time. Participants will receive a Zoom link on the morning of the session. Those interested in attending an in-person mobile office hour session are highly encouraged to schedule their appointments in advance by contacting either Tenney’s Binghamton District Office at the number above or her Utica District Office at 315-732-0713. Scheduling your appointment in advance will provide a more expedited casework experience for individuals and ensure that every constituent is able to receive the help they need. Celebrating National Dairy Month Did you know that June is National Dairy Month? I recently gave a speech on the Floor of the House of Representatives celebrating this important month! I recognized the importance of local dairy farms, the majority of which are family-owned and operated. I also spoke about the crucial nutritional value of dairy, particularly for children, and highlighted the need for continued support of the local dairy farms that help keep our District healthy. Lastly, I emphasized my support for the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, which will benefit upstate dairy farms and give schools the flexibility to serve children nutritious foods. Thanks to Those Who Joined the June Monthly Seminar! On Wednesday, my office hosted the latest installment of the monthly seminar series. We were joined by expert guests from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Homeland Security Investigations, who covered, among other topics, their efforts to protect children’s online activity. The HSI often works with schools directly to help support online privacy for children. Participants had an opportunity to hear from these experts and ask questions regarding this and other topics. Every month, I host a monthly seminar, in which my office connects residents of New York’s 22nd Congressional District to resources and support at the federal level. This is the ninth webinar my office has hosted. A complete archive of Tenney’s monthly seminars can be found at the link here. It's Not Too Late: Schedule Your DC Tour Today! As our nation returns to normal and reopens, it is my pleasure to share that tours of the White House and Capitol Building have made their long-awaited return! While tours have resumed at several locations, sites such as the U.S. Capitol are doing so incrementally. As such, we are still limited in how many constituent tours we can host each week. At present, tours of the Capitol Building have been restricted to one appointment per office per week. Please note, the White House requires 21 days minimum notice to accommodate any tour requests. Availability for both of these tours is extremely limited. I urge you to reach out to my office as soon as possible regarding all future tour requests. You can do so by accessing my tour request portal here. While my office may be unable to secure a Congressional tour for all the sites you have selected given the high demand and currently limited availability, there are a number of locations that remain available for public tours. I urge you to visit house.gov for more information regarding these opportunities. Such locations include the Supreme Court and the National Archives, which you can view here and here. You may also wish to register to receive your very own reader registration card through the Library of Congress, which you can do here. I would also suggest you contact your U.S. Senators, as they too have been successful in accommodating tour requests. You can submit a tour request to Senator Schumer's office here, as well as to Senator Gillibrand here. I believe strongly that our Nation's Capitol Building should be opened, which is why I have joined my colleagues in numerous public letters to Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging her to reopen the Capitol for tours. Although tours have started to return, there are still far too many restrictions in place. The American people deserve full access. Rest assured that my office will do all it can to accommodate as many requests as possible. We appreciate your understanding in this matter and wish all visitors a safe and pleasant trip to Washington. Have news or updates to share? Email me!
