** JULY NEWSLETTER
------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, John.

As we’re headed towards Independence Day, it’s important to acknowledge the challenge of celebrating America at this moment. We’ve seen a continuous stream of hard-right rulings coming from the Supreme Court that will lead to a country that is less safe, less free, and more divided than it’s been in any of our lifetimes.

It’s becoming more difficult to imagine the version of America we hope for with each new decision. And yet, that is precisely why we need to keep fighting. Democracy only works when we recommit every day to working to elect those that reflect our values and keep our elected officials accountable.

** ELECTION MEETING
------------------------------------------------------------
As a reminder, the MCYD Executive Board Special Election Meeting will take place via Zoom on Thursday, July 14th at 7:00 PM. You can sign up for that meeting here. ([link removed]) Eligible voters who attend the meeting will receive a link to vote anonymously virtually during the meeting.

Voting Eligibility: All members in good standing are eligible to vote. In order to be a member in good standing of the MCYD, you must be a Democrat under the age of 36 residing in Morris County, have paid your $5 dues in the past year (if you haven’t already, please do so here ([link removed]) ), and have attended at least two MCYD meetings between January 14th and July 14th of 2022, inclusive of the July 14th special election meeting.

Running For Office: One slate filed to run for MCYD Executive Board by the deadline. That slate consists of:
* T.C. McCourt, 32, for President. Currently serving as the MCYD's Outreach Coordinator, a position he has held since 2020, McCourt also serves as Vice-Chair of the Morris County Democratic Committee's LGBTQA+ Caucus. He is a two-time Democratic candidate for Morris County Commissioner, including in this year's election, and a former candidate for Dover's Board of Aldermen. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (B.A., Political Science) and Arkansas State University (Master of Public Administration), McCourt lives in Dover with his husband Bryan and their two cats.
* Laura Bustamante, 26, for Vice President. Born in Colombia, she currently serves as the Policy & Campaign Manager with the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice (NJAIJ), where she leads their advocacy efforts by crafting, managing, and executing strategy for their core campaigns. Prior to joining NJAIJ, Bustamante was the Chief of Staff to Jersey City Councilman James Solomon. A resident of Dover, she is currently pursuing a dual Masters in Public Administration and Protection Management from John Jay College and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and National Security from New Jersey City University.
* Carrie O'Brien, 28, for Secretary. O'Brien is a lifelong resident of Montville, where she began canvassing for Democrats at the age of 10. She graduated from Southern Oregon University, studying environmental science and policy, business, and communications. O'Brien recently started her own consulting business, American Infrastructure Solutions, which focuses on sustainable risk management strategies based on real-world climate reality. She previously served as Communications Manager for the MCYD from 2014-2018.
* Jonathan Bellinghausen, 20, for Treasurer. A former Morris County Democratic Committee and Mikie Sherrill for Congress intern, Bellinghausen is a rising junior at the Rutgers Business School-New Brunswick, where he is studying Business Analytics & Information Technology (BAIT) with a minor in Political Science. He serves as Vice President of the Student Assembly's Allocations Board, where he oversees the distribution of over $2.2M to organizations on campus. This past year, Bellinghausen had the ability to advocate for federal student aid and the Pell Grant to the NJ Congressional delegation, as well as other federal policymakers with the Rutgers Office of Federal Relations. He resides in Randolph.

During the special election meeting on July 14th, each candidate on the slate will have the opportunity to speak to the members present and make the case for their candidacy. MCYD members in good standing will have the opportunity to cast a secret ballot during the special election meeting.

The results of the election will be announced on the evening of July 14th and winning candidates will take office immediately afterward.

A detailed overview of the election process is enumerated in the
MCYD bylaws ([link removed]) .
