How to get our councils to support the TPNW - online workshop
The United Nation's Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons came into force on January 22nd 2021, with 66 nations already ratifying the historic treaty, which bans nuclear weapons for the first time. While the UK and other nuclear powers refuse to engage with the TPNW - grassroots campaigns have sprung up to lobby their local authorities to embrace the treaty and become a nuclear ban community.
But what is a nuclear ban community? How did cities like Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Norwich achieve this status in the UK? How will this pressure the UK government to follow suit? All these questions and more will be discussed in an exciting online workshop co-organised by CND and Nuclear Free Local Authorities.
This workshop will see an exchange of best practice and ideas, explore how to deal with any difficulties that have arisen in the campaign, and provide a space to ask any questions about the best way forward. Facilitated by CND General Secretary Kate Hudson, guest speakers will include Seth Shelden, who was instrumental in getting New York to back the campaign. Don't miss out on what will be a rewarding event for both novice and seasoned anti-nuclear campaigners alike.
