Ultra-conservatives on the Supreme Court delivered blow after blow to our fundamental rights and the foundations of our democracy over the last few weeks. From stripping us of the right to privacy and bodily autonomy, to overturning gun violence prevention measures and undermining the EPA’s ability to fight climate change. And next term, just in time for the 2024 presidential elections, they will take up a case that could change how elections are run across the country.

As we celebrate Independence Day this holiday weekend, I’m abroad visiting our troops (more on this next week). I am reflecting on the core principles of our democracy and recommitting myself to protecting the ideals our country was founded on – true equality and justice for all people, and the right to live free of tyranny.
