Yours in service, Mann.House.Gov Fall Internship Applications Are Open! I'm excited to offer internships to college-age students this fall in my Manhattan, Dodge City, and Washington D.C. offices. My first job on Capitol Hill was as an intern, and it's my privilege to offer the same experience to students today. Working in a congressional office is a unique opportunity for students to learn about the impacts of public policy, the role congressional offices play in helping constituents on a daily basis, and the importance of our elected bodies. The deadline to submit applications for the Fall 2022 semester is Friday, August 8, 2022. Applications are reviewed on a first-come basis. Questions? Contact my Washington D.C. office at 202-22-2715. Paker is a rising senior at Kansas State University where he is studying Agricultural Economics, Pre-Law, and is currently serving as the Student Body President. Parker served six weeks as an intern. Throughout his time in my office, he covered briefings with staff, attended meetings with advocacy groups, assisted constituents, led visitors on tours of the U.S. Capitol, drafted correspondence, monitored legislation, and worked on food and agricultural policy initiatives. As a former K-State Student Body President, I appreciate Parker's hard work, humility, and servant-minded attitude. He brought a variety of insights and skills to our team from his well-versed resume of leadership experience and agricultural background. Thank you, Parker, for all your hard work, and I look forward to seeing what great things you will accomplish in the future. Josh Kreisler, Overland Park, KS I have enjoyed having Josh in my Washington D.C. office this summer. He served six weeks in my office and has been a great asset to our staff and constituents. Josh was a diligent worker, stepped outside his comfort zone, and was always willing to help Kansans whether it be in person or over the phone. During his time in my office, Josh attended meetings with advocacy groups alongside staff, drafted correspondence, assisted constituents in the Big First District with casework, led visitors on tours of the U.S. Capitol, helped cover policy briefings, and took a digest of bills introduced in the 117th Congress. Josh is a rising senior at Kansas State University studying Agricultural Economics and plans to attend law school following graduation. I'm grateful for all his hard work on behalf of the Big First District, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for him. Mann.House.Gov In the Office Holding China Accountable for World Trade Organization Violations This week, I led a letter to President Biden urging him to hold India accountable for violating their World Trade Organization (WTO) commitments. Current WTO rules allow governments to subsidize up to 10% of the value of commodity production; however, the Indian government continues to subsidize more than half of the value of production for several commodities, including rice and wheat. India’s lack of rule-following, and the Biden Administration’s lack of enforcement, have reshaped the global agricultural production and trade channels by driving down prices, depressing production of rice and wheat commodities, and putting American producers at a disproportionate disadvantage. My colleagues and I are urging the Biden Administration to file a formal request for a consultation with India at the WTO and to continue monitoring other WTO members' domestic support programs that undermine fair trade practices. Click here to read the full text of the letter. Click here to read the previous letter sent to U.S. Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai in January 2022. Legislation I Support H.R. 8171, Protecting Minors from Medical Malpractice Act. H.R. 8167, Repealing Excise Tax on Unalienable Rights Now (RETURN) Act. H. Res. 1183, Denouncing the acts of domestic terrorism being committed by pro-abortion extremists. H.R. 8069, Reducing Farm Input Costs and Barriers to Domestic Production Act. H.R. 8050, Fallen Heroes Flag Reauthorization Act of 2022. H. Res. 1167, Life at Conception Act. H.R. 7987, Deterring Enemy Forces and Enabling National Defenses (DEFEND) Act of 2022. Mann.House.Gov Happening Across the Country How it started... How it's going. Today, Americans are struggling to pay for necessities like groceries because of the Biden Administration's reckless spending. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF), American families will spend 17% more this year on the Fourth of July celebrations compared to last year. Instead of addressing the root cause of inflation, President Biden and House Democrats continue to push their reckless spending agenda, which will only exacerbate America’s economic crisis. I am fighting for policies that reel in out-of-control government spending and put the well-being of Americans first.
