#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | July 1, 2022 Heading Into the Holiday Weekend Happy Friday! We have been in recess this week, so I've been spending time down in the district connecting with constituents and enjoying the summer weather. On Tuesday, we celebrated 27 years since The Citadel voted to admit women. The experiences I had there shaped me into who I am today and I could not be more thankful. Go Dogs! Tuesday, I also signed a letter with the other Republican members of the Oversight and Reform Committee asking for information about a new position the current Administration added to the U.S. Department of State: Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice. Our citizens have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent and what this new role is designed to accomplish. On Wednesday, our team spoke with the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club and updated them on what we have been up to in Washington. It is important for my constituents to feel like they are being represented and being kept up to date as I am working for you. Our team always appreciates the chance to meet with community members and help ensure you all are informed about the hard work we do. Thursday, our team attended multiple events on Hilton Head Island. We watched the new logo of the airport and were able to be a part of the ribbon-cutting at Islanders Beach Park for the new Overlook Pavilion. It is always exciting to see new progress in our district. On Thursday, we also celebrated Governor McMaster signing a new law that ensures military retirees to no longer have to pay income tax on their pension. This is a huge win for veterans all across the Palmetto State. Friday morning, I introduced a bipartisan bill with Rep. Chris Pappas called the Faster Payments to Veteran's Survivors Act to improve the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) processes for identifying, locating, and paying hard-to-find survivors of recently deceased veterans. This legislation will improve the VA’s management of undispersed life insurance funds to ensure that the surviving families of our nation’s heroes receive the timely payments they need to make ends meet after the tragic loss of their loved ones.” I hope you can all take time this holiday weekend to get outside with friends and family and appreciate how lucky we are to live in the greatest nation on earth. I'm looking forward to some time on the beach with my family and getting prepared for the busy weeks ahead. As always: if you need us, call us. Whether you need help with a passport, issues with receiving your tax refund or the Veterans Administration, please reach out to our office if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to be heard on any issue at any time. It’s an immense honor to serve each and every one of you.
