[1]Lucas Kunce for U.S. Senate
John — I know I emailed you last
night under similar circumstances and I know it’s the afternoon before a
long holiday weekend, so I’ll try to keep this quick.
In a moment, I’m going to ask you to [ [link removed] ]add a donation of any amount
toward the $100,000 goal my team set to close the gap in our ads budget.
But first, please let me explain what we’re up against and why this goal
matters so much.

I’m not kidding when I say insiders laughed after I first shared my plan
to run a truly grassroots campaign for Missouri’s open U.S. Senate seat.
They thought refusing a cent from corporate PACs would make running a
serious campaign impossible. But over the last year, we’ve not only proved
them wrong — we’ve scared the hell out of them.
From landing on the front cover of Politico Magazine to outraising every
single one of our opponents to putting this race in a dead heat with the
GOP frontrunner, this grassroots movement has made their worst fears a
reality.
Our movement has made every corrupt GOP insider and Washington politician
watching our race realize that their broken status quo is in trouble — and
now they’ve launched an all-out war to protect it.
After we had effectively cleared the primary field, a billionaire heiress
announced her run for the Democratic nomination in our race — just HOURS
before the deadline to put her name on the ballot. Now, she’s planning to
spend millions to buy her way into Missouri’s U.S. Senate race.
Then, this week, a GOP mega-lawyer who clerked for Clarence Thomas
launched his campaign as an “independent” — and the Super PAC backing him
announced it would spend $20 MILLION over the coming weeks on TV ads and
mailers.
I’m not worried about what either of these candidates mean for November.
But I am worried about whether or not our grassroots campaign will be able
to compete in a race brimming with corporate mega-donors, wealthy
political elites, and billionaire families.
I want to be real with you. Campaigns aren’t cheap — and July is BY FAR
going to be our most expensive month yet. We’re putting ads on TV,
contacting voters across the state, and traveling all over Missouri. All
of that on top of our normal operating expenses.
That’s why closing this budget gap is so crucial. We’re up against literal
billionaires in this race,
John. Falling short now, at the beginning of
the most critical month of our campaign yet, could have a dramatic impact
on this election. So I’m asking:
[ [link removed] ]Will you please add a donation of $10 or any amount at
all toward our $100,000 goal before the end of the day? We’re building a
movement to fundamentally change who has power in our country built by
real people just like you, so I mean it when I say absolutely any amount
matters to me.

I guess this wasn’t as short as I thought it would be. But I hope it gives
you a better understanding of why this goal — and your support in this
critical moment — could make all the difference for us.
I hope you have a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend. I’m so grateful to
have you on this team.
