It’s nice to meet you. My name is Charles Booker, and I’m running for the U.S. Senate to represent Kentucky against Rand Paul.
I wanted to reach out to you myself to welcome you to our team. Thank you for supporting my campaign, and our movement to bring change to Kentucky.
As a born-and-raised Kentuckian, running for this seat isn’t just politics to me. It’s a very personal decision, and I want to share with you a bit about my story and why I’m the best person to fight for you and your family.
My story is Kentucky’s story. It’s a story of perseverance, faith, and overcoming impossible obstacles.
I grew up in one of the poorest ZIP codes in Kentucky. We sometimes went without heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer. My mom often went without eating so that I could. But I still went to school hungry and tired. After I was diagnosed with diabetes, we were often forced to ration my insulin just to survive.
Today, my wife and I are raising three girls. They can grow up in a world where only senators and their wealthy friends can live a life of dignity — or they can grow up in a world in which we can all thrive together, whether you’re from the hood or the holler.
I know there are thousands of families in Kentucky just like mine who are making painful sacrifices, working multiple jobs, and still can’t make ends meet. The challenges we face are real, and they are urgent.
It’s never been clearer that we need bold solutions to our problems. It’s time to demand real change; Kentuckians are hungry for it. I saw it in the streets when I was marching with my neighbors to demand justice for Breonna Taylor. I saw it when we ran a historic, unapologetically progressive campaign against Mitch McConnell, and I hear about it every day in our community.
We need transformative policies that guarantee health care to all, a living wage to everyone, and that transforms our society to work for all of us — not just the wealthy and well-connected.
But for years, Rand Paul has refused to deliver on this front. He’s used his power in the Senate only to benefit the wealthy and the powerful, while ignoring the rest of us.
Above all else, I love Kentucky. That’s why I’m running for the U.S. Senate. We have so much strength, resolve, and potential — and we deserve so much better than Rand’s failed leadership.
My mom taught me that if you have faith just the size of a mustard seed, you can move a mountain. And I have faith that we can defeat Rand Paul and take back Kentucky for us all. But if we’re going to do this, I can’t do it alone.
