John, one week ago, the news that we’ve all been dreading broke: right-wing Supreme Court justices ended reproductive freedom in the United States . It’s devastating and unconscionable, and the impact will be horrific.

We will right this wrong by electing more Pro-Choice Democrats, like Sen. Ron Wyden, our Democratic candidates for Congress, and the whole Oregon Democratic slate. Once we re-elect Sen. Wyden and increase our Democratic Senate majority with two new members who support filibuster reform and reproductive freedom, we will write reproductive freedom into the law, so the Supreme Court can’t touch it!

Almost 50 years ago, before the Supreme Court was taken over by right-wing ideologues, an overwhelming majority of the Court found that the Right to Privacy applied to a woman’s right to make reproductive health decisions. As Democrats, we believe that women have sole jurisdiction over their own bodies. No politician should stand between a woman and her doctor.

Recent decisions make it clear that our current, right-wing Supreme Court justices are nothing but Republican politicians in robes. Their decisions are driven soley by politics. They will allow even the most abusive state laws to stand. These laws take many forms: from barring physicians from properly consulting with their patients, to restricting contraception access, to outlawing abortion even when the life of the mother is at stake.

We will stop this madness if we elect more pro-choice Democrats. [[link removed]] The good news is that the Democratic Party of Oregon knows how to win. When we mobilize Democrats to speak one-on-one with their neighbors, they cut through misinformation and nonsense, but that takes immense work by our small staff.
