Hi John,

Just one week to go until our national gathering in Sheffield!

We are thrilled to announce an extra panelist: Farooq Tariq is the General Secretary of the Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee (PKRC), which is a rural workers’ union and a member of La Via Campesina – the global peasants’ movement. As one of the countries most affected by climate change in recent years, particularly experiencing unprecedented and deadly heatwaves, Pakistan is on the front line of the fight against the climate crisis. Farooq will be joining us for our final panel, ‘Towards a Globally-Just Transition’ to discuss that struggle, and what a fair and sustainable future could look like.

We'd love for you to join us in person, however we can now confirm that the two main panels will be livestreamed, as will the AGM for any members who would like to watch online. Visit the event page on the day for links to the livestreams. Or, to attend in person:

Hope in the Dark:

Climate breakdown, reparations and a just transition

"Hope is not a lottery ticket you can sit on the sofa and clutch, feeling lucky. It is an axe you break down doors with in an emergency... To hope is to give yourself to the future - and that commitment to the future is what makes the present inhabitable.” - Rebecca Solnit

A day of workshops and inspiring talks

As temperatures rise year on year, the whole world is becoming more vulnerable to climate chaos. Yet the worst effects are mostly suffered by those communities who have contributed least to climate breakdown. To have any hope of adapting to a changing climate, while also preventing the crisis from getting even worse, we need a global just transition – but countries in the global south are hamstrung by a world economy that works in the interests of the rich.

Join us for Global Justice Now’s National Gathering to hear from some of the most relevant voices in the climate justice and reparations movements right now.

Co-organised with Jubilee for Climate, with panels and workshops on:
the case for climate reparations • vaccine inequality • climate and trade • debt and climate justice • mobilising towards a globally just transition.

Hope is the product of action and organisation, so come and join us in Sheffield on 9 July for this timely and necessary conversation, and let’s give ourselves something to be hopeful for.
