Jim Daly on Historic Reversal of Roe
By: Jim Daly
It was Thomas Jefferson who once observed, “God is just” and “His justice cannot sleep forever.”
After nearly a half-century and over 60 million deaths, the horrifying and tragic ruling of Roe has finally been overturned. It was bad law then – and a majority of the Supreme Court has affirmed it is bad law now. No court has the right to deprive a child of the right to live. We celebrate this milestone today and applaud the six justices who have courageously and correctly interpreted the United States Constitution.
This is a day to give thanks to God. It’s also a day to give thanks to the tens of millions who have marched in the snow and cold on the anniversary of Roe these last fifty years as faithful witnesses to the value of human life. It’s a day, as well, to give thanks to those who have committed their lives and their resources to serving mothers and protecting innocent children.

After ‘Roe’ Overturned, Focus on the Family Launches Multimillion Dollar Pro-Life Ad Campaign
By: Zachary Mettler
In response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade this morning, Focus on the Family is immediately launching a multimillion-dollar pro-life ad campaign.
The effort aims to change hearts and minds on the issue of abortion, and promote Focus’ Option Ultrasound Program (OUP), which has saved nearly half a million preborn lives from abortion since 2004.
The ad will air on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” as well as on the Hallmark channel, the History channel, Lifetime, Newsmax, TV Land, and on Washington, D.C., local media channels among others.
In response to the high court’s decision, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly issued a statement celebrating today’s decision.
“No court has the right to deprive a child of the right to live. We celebrate this milestone today and applaud the six justices who have courageously and correctly interpreted the United States Constitution,” Daly said.
“This is a day to give thanks to God. It’s also a day to give thanks to the tens of millions who have marched in the snow and cold on the anniversary of Roe these last fifty years as faithful witnesses to the value of human life.

Life Wins at the U.S. Supreme Court: Reactions from the Pro-Life Community on This Historic Day
By: Nicole Hunt
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court made history as it overturned Roe v. Wade. Reactions from the pro-life community were filled with gratitude to God for justice finally being served and to the Supreme Court for restoring constitutional order.
For nearly 50 years, the moral conscience of our nation has been compromised by the tragic and unnecessary loss of over 60 million babies through the legalization of abortion by the United States Supreme Court. But starting today, that wrong has been righted.
Starting today, the right to decide these matters is properly returned to the people of the United States and their representatives.
Starting today, the battle to win hearts and minds for the pro-life cause has never been more critical.
In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, Mississippi’s Attorney General, who brought the underlying case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, responded, “Today marks a new era in American history — and a great day for the American people. Roe v. Wade is now behind us, consigned to the list of infamous cases that collapsed under the weight of their errors. This decision is a victory not only for women and children, but for the Court itself. Now, our work to empower women and promote life truly begins. The Court has let loose its hold on abortion policymaking and given it back to the people….”

Roe Was Overturned Because President Trump Kept His Promise
By: Paul Batura
Standing on a black-and-blue-colored stage at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas during the third presidential debate back in October of 2016, then candidate Donald J. Trump made a stark and bold promise.
“I feel that the justices that I am going to appoint — and I’ve named 20 of them — the justices that I’m going to appoint will be pro-life,” Mr. Trump stated. “They will have a conservative bent … They are great scholars in all cases, and they’re people of tremendous respect. They will interpret the Constitution the way the Founders wanted it interpreted. And I believe that’s very, very important.”
He continued:
“I don’t think we should have justices appointed that decide what they want to hear. It’s all about the Constitution of — and so important, the Constitution the way it was meant to be. And those are the people that I will appoint.”
Just a few minutes later, Senator Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump’s opponent, stated:
“I strongly support Roe v. Wade, which guarantees a constitutional right to a woman to make the most intimate, most difficult, in many cases, decisions about her health care that one can imagine.”
Debate moderator Chris Wallace pressed Mr. Trump about his desire to see the Supreme Court overturn Roe, then turned his attention to the horrors of partial-birth abortion.

What Actually Happened in ‘Dobbs’? A Short Explanation
By: Bruce Hausknecht
By now everyone has heard about or read a headline saying that the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the 49-year-old decision that created a constitutional “right” to abortion out of whole cloth. In Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the high court on Friday not only threw out Roe, but also its 1992 progeny, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which modified Roe while still reaffirming the underlying “right.”
At issue in Dobbs was the constitutionality of a 2018 Mississippi law prohibiting abortion (with certain limited exceptions) after 15 weeks gestation. Challenged in the federal courts, the law was struck down because of Roe and Casey. Casey in particular held that until the viability of the preborn child (currently considered to be around 24 weeks gestation), a state had essentially no defendable interest in prohibiting abortion.
In the Dobbs majority opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, six justices combined to uphold the constitutionality of the Mississippi 15-week law. There was a slight difference in the reasoning the court used to get there, with five justices – Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Barrett – agreeing that Roe “was egregiously wrong from the start,” expressly overturning Roe and Casey.
“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Alito’s majority opinion stated. “The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely — the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”
