John,
The Supreme Court has made some deeply troubling decisions this month but we are never beyond hope.
President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Congress can take action by ending the Senate filibuster, repealing the Hyde Amendment, and codifying abortion rights, same-sex marriage, the right to contraception, and interracial marriage now.
We need to put pressure on the White House and Congress to act now. Will you make a call or send a tweet to your elected officials and tell them to fight for our human and civil rights immediately?
Make a call to your Senator right now.
Send a tweet to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and your Congressional representatives.
This month, the Court has chosen to take away rights and protections at every opportunity against majority opinion, instead of advocating for providing the care and support we all need. They have overstepped their authority as a “coequal partner” to the White House and our elected members of Congress.
In the last two weeks, the Court has:
- Ended the nationwide right to abortion care
- Made it harder for states to protect people from gun violence
- Stripped Miranda protections
- Gutted EPA regulations designed to thwart climate change
- Enabled private schools to use public funding, even if they discriminate
- And indicated a willingness to take way additional rights, including same-sex marriage, contraception, and more.
This is the time we need to rise up and reinforce the world we need to see.
We need the people who campaigned on protecting our rights and supporting our caregivers to take action and keep their promises.
There are a few more weeks left before Congress goes home for August recess and their attention fully turns to the fall election. There are still a few more weeks where they can get something done. And they need to hear from you now.
Reach out to your elected officials today to encourage them to protect our human and civil rights now. You can make a call or send a tweet. (Or both!)
Make your call.
Send your tweets.
With care,
Nicole Jorwic, Chief of Advocacy and Campaigns
