Governor Holcomb is so proud to break ground on the South Shore Double Track Project that will add nearly 18 miles of new track and improve the South Shore Line that stretches from Michigan City to Gary.

As part of Gov. Holcomb’s Next Level Agenda, this construction project is a nearly $650 million project, with $173 million in federal funding: making it one of the largest investments in public transit in the history of Indiana.

With construction anticipated to finish in early 2024, this project is expected to:

Increase train frequency
Reduce travel time
Attract thousands of new residents
Provide opportunity and access to more competitive job markets across the state
Bring thousands of jobs to Hoosiers
Improve safety for passengers along the entire alignment and in the boarding areas
Create a momentous, multi-million dollar economic impact

While gas prices are debilitating families across America and inflation is threatening a looming recession, this project is a HUGE step forward for generations to come and sets Indiana off as an example for the rest of the nation.
