Voters Reject Supreme Court’s Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade
As we all heard last week, the Supreme Court handed down its 6-3 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, overturning the constitutionally-protected right to abortion and 50 years of precedent. This decision will have a wide-ranging impact on millions of pregnant people, who may now have to make costly trips out of state for essential, life-saving healthcare. Many will be unable to access abortion and reproductive care entirely. New Data for Progress polling conducted shortly after the Supreme Court decision was released finds that voters strongly oppose the court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Voters oppose the decision to overturn the constitutionally protected right to an abortion by a -20-point margin. This includes Democrats by a -67-point margin and Independents by a -23-point margin.

Additionally, this decision has shaken voters’ confidence for the future of our country, as Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in his concurring opinion that the Court should reconsider protections for contraception, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage. Voters oppose the court overturning these decisions by a +45-point margin.
More than half of voters (54 percent) believe future generations will have fewer rights than the current generation. Strikingly, we find that 67 percent of Democrats and 57 percent of Independents believe future generations will have fewer rights, a scathing indictment of the Supreme Court’s attacks on personal freedoms and the direction our country is taking.

It’s all trash. We don’t really have a funny spin on it, tbh. But you can read the full polling analysis here ([link removed]) .
Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:
West Virginia Coal Barons Try To Burn EPA For Money
SCOTUS fundamentally reshaped the way the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates air pollution and took a big chunk out of the Biden Administration’s authority to tackle climate change. The plaintiffs — 19 Republican attorneys general coal barons working alongside two coal companies — argue that the EPA does not have the authority to regulate power plant emissions and this authority shouldinstead be granted to Congress ([link removed]) .
New polling ([link removed]) conducted by Data for Progress and Evergreen Action finds that 60 percent of voters believe the EPA should be allowed to regulate air pollution that contributes to climate change, including 80 percent of Democrats and 60 percent of Independents.

Do Not Sing ‘God Bless America’ On The Same Day That Roe is Overturned
It should have been front page news: a bipartisan group of 20 senators announced ([link removed]) that they had reached an agreement on a safety and gun-related policy package. Led by Republican Senator J*hn C*rnyn and Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, this package includes provisions for mental health resources, support for victims of domestic violence, and funding for school safety, in addition to other gun-related policies.
Voters support the bipartisan gun safety bill by a +48-point margin, including Democrats by a +81-point margin, Independents by a +48-point margin, and Republicans by a +13-point margin.

It’s not a bill that goes far enough — not even close. But it will save lives. Read the full polling analysis here ([link removed]) .
They Just Don’t Coup Like They Used To
The Jan. 6 hearings have been almost as good as RHOA lately when it comes to offering truly gripping television. Whether it’s finding out Trump tried to grab the steering wheel from Secret Service (remember when that would have been front page news?!) or hearing that Rudy Guiliani was gleefully anticipating the proud boys, it is truly amazing that we are still shocked by the Tr*mp Administration. But it turns out it’s not just us — it might be making an impact with voters, too.
New polling ([link removed]) from Data for Progress finds that a slim majority of voters (51 percent) believe Trump Republicans’ efforts to contest the 2020 election, including the Jan. 6 attack, were an attempt to claim and hold power and overturn the will of the people. That’s not even close to what it should be (thirty-seven percent of voters believe the fraudulent election claims that were touted ([link removed]) by Trump and Trump Republicans — THIRTY SEVEN!) but it’s a start. And it’s also notable that Independents say that Congressional Republicans who lie about the 2020 election being stolen cannot be trusted to uphold the will of the people:

Dems Deliver
Clearly, the Supreme Court is going through their feral girl summer. But, instead of just taking five tequila shots and hitting up the guy who would literally not care if you got hit by an 18-wheeler like the rest of us, they decided to put all of that unhinged energy into destroying the fabric of our society. W. T. F.
Maybe hot girl summer was simply too powerful. Alito and Thomas saw the power that we possess and decided to give people guns and take away our rights before we manifested every Supreme Court seat to a liberal justice. Fine, check mate.
But they don’t know that it’s also plot girl summer and we are absolutely plotting. But before we can send all of the stolen Supreme Court seats back to the QAnon Parlor thread where they belong, Dems are are plotting to improve infrastructure.
One of the projects in the multi-billion-dollar Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (remember that??) will help secure efficient and safe navigation and marine commerce in New Haven Harbor, Connecticut. $63 million in funds will go to the New Haven Harbor Deepening Project, which will help jump start design efforts and lead to construction completion and deepen and widen channels to create a maneuvering area and turning basin. Super sexy stuff, we know. But it is important! You can learn more about the proposal here ([link removed]) .
No doubt, everything is a mess right now. Guns have more rights than reproductive systems. We’re about one insurrection away from The Handmaid’s Tale: Live! But New Haven Harbor, never forget: the Democrats have your back on dredging projects.
