Oldham Athletic

We are delighted to hear the news of the new ownership at Oldham Athletic ([link removed][0]=AZXkXQv9Vwfs5kVHNT6pFwHe6I61CcbiUN6krijH29VwOEOqkuXIQ7CyC3bH9zb0TQhOFcN873MKtiTfS4EOQjNw1liS7aJgF4VNMNvrpez8VnE3Q8aHmjgLVIGTJexwEYawBmnlKe3prxIZLw-yq26slHLyKBGkTqvmwAztSQbvWA&__tn__=kK-R&mc_cid=4a6c11fe1d&mc_eid=UNIQID)

We want to wish the club the very best for the future, including their forthcoming 22/23 campaign which we all hope ends with their return to the EFL ([link removed][0]=AZXkXQv9Vwfs5kVHNT6pFwHe6I61CcbiUN6krijH29VwOEOqkuXIQ7CyC3bH9zb0TQhOFcN873MKtiTfS4EOQjNw1liS7aJgF4VNMNvrpez8VnE3Q8aHmjgLVIGTJexwEYawBmnlKe3prxIZLw-yq26slHLyKBGkTqvmwAztSQbvWA&__tn__=kK-R&mc_cid=4a6c11fe1d&mc_eid=UNIQID)

Councillor Amanda Chadderton, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “We are delighted to hear the news of a new ownership for Oldham Athletic Football Club

"This is really good news for the club, its supporters, and the whole borough after the despair and heartache of recent years.

"We’re looking forward to working with the new owner and understanding more about their plans to take the club forward.

"No one has to tell them they have a big job on their hands, but I’m sure they can’t wait to get started as, like us at the council, they want the best for the residents and fans.

"The club have our full support and we wish them well for the coming season.

"We all want to see Latics back in the football league - it’ll give the whole town a boost.”

Vehicles would not be charged under new Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan

New plans for a non-charging and investment led Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan, aimed at improving the health of residents has been published.

Unlike the previous charging Clean Air Zone scheme, which was set up following government guidelines, the new plan seeks to address the cost-of-living crisis. It considers the impact of the Covid pandemic on supply chains and supports ongoing recovery.

The new plan would look to see drivers given financial support so they can upgrade to cleaner and greener vehicles.

Tackling the health impact of poor air quality remains a priority for Greater Manchester but the previous plan became unworkable due to changes in the global vehicle supply chain linked to the pandemic and the emerging cost-of-living crisis.

It would have imposed daily charges for non-compliant vehicles that owners might not have been able to upgrade to cleaner vehicles.

The new plan was submitted to government on July 1 so it can be considered. For more on the Clean Air Plan visit [link removed] ([link removed] )
Starting in St Marys this July

This July our staff will start tidying up streets, roads and alleyways in St Marys as part of the Don’t Trash Oldham campaign.

They’ll be carrying out a deep clean of the area removing all the litter, rubbish, fly-tipping and overgrown shrubbery they find - because no one wants to live in a tip.

Since the council started the campaign in September our staff have cleaned up more than 231 tonnes of litter, rubbish, fly-tipping and overgrown shrubs and cleaned more than 3,200 streets and alleys.

We’ve fined 352 people for environmental crimes.

Once the clean ups have finished it’s up to you and your neighbours to keep your area clean because we can’t keep coming back to tidy up.

For more information about the campaign visit www.oldham.gov.uk/DontTrashOldham ([link removed])
A new era for health care in Oldham

As of today (1 July) local Clinical Commissioning Groups across the country closed down and have been replaced with Integrated Care Partnerships.
The purpose of Integrated Care Partnerships is to help organisations work better with the public to:
• improve the health of children and young people
• support people to stay well and independent
• help health and care services act sooner to help those with preventable conditions
• support those with long-term conditions or mental health issues
• care for those with multiple conditions, particularly as people get older
• get the best from collective resources so people get care as quickly as possible.

Oldham, along with the nine other local authorities in Greater Manchester, has its own partnership called Oldham Integrated Care Partnership which combines NHS staff, Oldham Council employees and the voluntary sector to provide the best health and care possible for you and your families. Today is Action Meso Day

Go Blue for Meso is all about lighting up your home. We want to put a spotlight on mesothelioma, a disease caused by exposure to asbestos that deserves more attention because asbestos hasn’t gone away.

More people die from exposure to asbestos than die in road traffic accidents per year. Over 2,700 people per year are diagnosed with mesothelioma and it is a type of cancer that is entirely preventable.

Fewer than 10% of people with mesothelioma survive beyond 3 years in the UK

The majority die within 6 months of diagnosis – 60% within a year.

60% don’t survive more than a year (40% survive to one year)

The act of lighting up your home is a way to raise awareness, to remember loved ones who have sadly died of mesothelioma and to acknowledge those ** living with the disease. ([link removed])
