It’s been a week since the Supreme Court overturned our constitutional right to abortion. 

This decision has thrown our country into a legal, constitutional, and public health crisis. Devastation has already hit across the country, as 11 states have already banned or severely limited abortion, and more are moving to do the same. 

The Supreme Court may have made this decision, but they didn’t act alone. For the past 50 years, Republicans have made it their mission to take away the constitutional right to our bodies. The Supreme Court, and anti-choice politicians, have directly gone against the will of the American people to push their agenda for power and control. 

We know what a country without the right to abortion looks like, and we refuse to go back. Let’s be clear: The fight for abortion does not end with the Supreme Court’s decision. There is so much we can do to protect our rights — starting with the states. 

The Supreme Court has put the decision of whether abortion will be legal in the hands of the states, and we’re going to make sure our state lawmakers’ decisions reflect us.

The right to make decisions for our bodies should be ours, but the Supreme Court has taken that away from us. A group of just five people, who do not reflect our hopes for the future, have stripped us of a fundamental right and freedom. 

Women and birthing people now face a reality where their futures are no longer up to them. Black people, who already die at unprecedented rates from pregnancy-related issues, are facing the brunt of this ruling as even more draconian, far-right abortion bans hit their communities. 

And we know that Republicans aren’t going to stop here. They will continue to disregard Americans health and safety as they work to ban abortion at the federal level.

That’s why we need to stay in this fight. To protect our health, freedom, and future, we’ve got to make sure our state lawmakers do everything they can to protect our right to an abortion.
