Ever since my daughter, Jaime, was killed with an AR-15 in her school in Parkland, FL, I have fought to pass common sense gun violence prevention legislation to save other families from the kind of loss that I and so many other survivors feel.
And, John, after nearly 30 years of inaction against gun violence, we can finally celebrate this consequential moment: Lawmakers across the aisle pushed bipartisan gun safety legislation forward and this weekend, President Biden signed it into law.
I will never forget when President Biden promised me, personally, that he would sign gun safety legislation into law and he fulfilled that promise this weekend. This is a win for everyone in this movement – and this is a win for all of the families who we won’t get to know because they were spared from the reality of gun violence. But we cannot stop there, John. And after the Supreme Court’s deadly decision to allow virtually anyone to carry a concealed weapon anywhere, it’s more important than ever to continue this lifesaving work.
This progress happened because we fought for gun violence prevention champions to all levels of government. It was our collective outcry following tragedies in Buffalo and Uvalde that pushed lawmakers to stand against the NRA and pass this bill. And it is only with our continued, collective action that we will keep this momentum up.
That’s why I’m asking you today, John, to fuel this fight forward. Brady is already working to pass legislation in state governments to protect common sense gun laws and to elect gun violence prevention champions to all levels of government come November. As a dad whose daughter was murdered, as a father who’s still fighting for his son’s life and the lives of other kids, I’m asking you from the bottom of my heart: Please, will you donate what you can to Brady right now and help us continue to change this country? Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for taking action so that no other father has to go through the loss of their child. Thank you for taking action to honor Jaime.
