Yesterday, a 6-3 ruling in the United States Supreme Court severely curtailed the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate carbon pollution and respond to the dire threat of climate change. The implications of this ruling could go well beyond the EPA, and limit the ability of federal agencies to protect against carbon pollution across the federal government.
Migratory birds like finches and warblers have been telling us for quite some time that we must act on climate—and the powerful protections of the EPA have meant the difference between survival and extinction for many species of birds.
Despite this grim news, Audubon is committed to protecting vulnerable birds and their habitats through our unique blend of rigorous research, committed advocacy, and hands-on conservation. We count on steady support from caring friends like you to make our vital work possible.
If we are to protect the birds we love and the places they need to survive, we need to act now. For the sake of all birds, will you start a sustainable monthly gift to help us fight back against this devastating EPA rollback?
The fact that we’ve lost 3 billion birds in the past 50 years is jolting—but beyond the shock of that number lies a simple truth: We don’t lose a billion birds all at once. We lose them a few at a time, in countless small incidents happening repeatedly, all across the country.
That’s why this most recent Supreme Court decision is a devastating blow to the health and safety of our communities, our families, and our nation’s birds. And it sets a dangerous precedent for future actions, severely curtailing current efforts to combat climate change and for the entire U.S. power grid to run on clean energy by 2035.
Stripping the EPA of its authority to reduce carbon dioxide from power plants also strips birds of their most vital protections. Please lend us the strength and endurance it takes to see birds through to safety and
become a monthly donor today.
At a time when birds and other wildlife are imperiled by the effects of a changing climate, every action we take to protect them counts. And we need your support to ensure we don’t backpedal on progress.
This is a long-term fight. Support Audubon’s work with your sustainable monthly gift right away to protect birds and the places they need today, tomorrow, and as long as it takes.
Sincerely,
National Audubon Society
