John—our end of quarter fundraising deadline is tonight at midnight. Can you chip in to help keep Katie Porter in Congress where she’s fighting to lower costs, protect the environment, and restore the right to an abortion?
Check out Katie’s earlier email about the competitiveness of this race and why this deadline matters ⬇️

Subject: Reclaiming YOUR time
To: John [[email protected]]
Hey John,
If you’ve ever watched a congressional hearing, you know that I’m often saying "reclaiming my time" as witnesses try to avoid answering questions about how they’ve taken advantage of taxpayers, shortchanged employees, or lied to Americans.
So in the interest of reclaiming YOUR time that you spend reading fundraising emails and thinking get to the point, here’s some rapid fire, no bullshit answers to the questions you might have about why you should donate, and why I’m seemingly pleading for your $15.
Q: You are in California. Don’t you have an easy enough race? A: Unlike the state as a whole, Orange County is purple. Our district contains an equal number of Republicans and Democrats, so this race really is a toss up. On top of that, because of redistricting nearly 70% of the voters here are new to me, and the district contains deep red strongholds like Huntington Beach which is currently represented by a Republican in Congress. |
Q: You’ve been sending me emails like this all year. Why do you need more money? A: The unfortunate reality is that this could be one of the most expensive House races in the country. It’s not just the gas that costs more here in Southern California—the LA media market (which determines how much it costs to run our TV ads) is the second most expensive in the country. We’re also in what we call a ‘local media desert’ which means we rely on paid advertisements to reach voters. |
Q: What’s the advantage of giving *today* rather than next week? A: Today’s the final day of the quarter, and that means we’ll soon be required to report how much we’ve raised over the past three months. Republican super PACs are watching these numbers to see which races are worth investing in. They’ve already put millions into attack ads here in CA-47, but how much more they spend this summer is still to be seen, and reporting a strong number can help keep them from spending even more in our race. |
Q: Who are you running against? A: I’m running against a Republican who is literally friends with Ted Cruz and has been involved in corruption and fraud. On top of that, he’s staunchly anti-choice and would join Republicans in Congress who want to pass a nationwide abortion ban. |
If you’re feeling convinced, I’d be so appreciative of any donation you can make. I don’t take corporate PAC or lobbyist money, so I count on people like you.

Thanks for taking the time to read!
Katie Porter
Katie is running for re-election in California’s 47th district, which includes Irvine and coastal Orange County. This purple district contains an equal number of Democrats and Republicans and is a must-win for Democrats. Consider pitching in today so we have the resources to keep Katie in Congress fighting for working people. |
