Earlier this week, Governor Newsom signed a budget agreement that includes a number of critical items you need to know about:

1. California is making direct payments of up to $1,050 to twenty-three million Californians. You can use it to help cover gas costs, food — whatever you need. This is the largest direct payment to people of any state in the country.

2. California will become the first state to achieve universal access to health care coverage for EVERYONE, including every undocumented immigrant in the state. It’s not only the right and moral thing to do, but if COVID has taught us anything it’s that the health of one, impacts the health of all.

To steal a phrase, this is a Big F*cking Deal.

3. $200 million in additional funding for reproductive health care services and tax credits for businesses that leave anti-choice states and come to California.

4. Money to accelerate our clean energy future, respond to severe wildfires, extreme heat, and drought as well as money for additional power-generating capacity.

5. Programs for homeownership, education funding, universal preschool, children’s mental health and free school meals.

And we’re going to have more big news soon.
